1. Create a list of what your dream life looks like
Grab a piece of paper and start writing down everything you've ever dreamed of having in your life. Include everything that comes to mind even if it seems silly. You want to live in a tree house in Costa Rica? Write it down. You want to quit your job and work from home? Write that down. Whatever comes to mind include it on your life.
2. Evaluate the things you wrote down
Next, you will want to evaluate your list. Go through each point that you wrote down and prioritize them from least and most important to you. This is also the time when you need to ask yourself why you want to accomplish these things. Do you want to live in a treehouse in Costa Rica so your Instagram looks cooler or because you've always wanted to live off the grid? Evaluate each point by putting a lot of thought into your goals and ask yourself why you wrote them down. Maybe you end up crossing a few out and that's okay just make sure that the things you write down are because of you and not for someone else.
3. Assess your current situation
After you've figured out exactly what your dream life looks like you need to assess your current situation. What is really holding you back from living your dream life? Are these things you can change or are these things completely out of your control?
4. Break down your dreams into smaller attainable goals
Once you've realized and really thought about all the factors in your life that contribute to your unhappiness or feelings of unfulfillment, the fun part can begin. Break down your dreams and the obstacles that you face into small attainable goals. For example, if you want to live off the grid in a Costa Rican treehouse start by doing some research. Once you take the first step you're more likely to take the next step and follow through on your dreams. You absolutely hate your job? Start by updating your resume and researching job postings in your area.
5. Be grateful and present in your current situation
Changing your life will never happen over night so in the mean time it's important to show gratitude for the things that you do have. If you're still living in your parents house and you're anxious to move out on your own, try being grateful for having a roof over your head. Being grateful will help you in creating your dream life.
Whatever it may be, the point to all of this is to really assess how you can change what you don't like about your current situation. You are the author to your life and if you keep writing the same story over and over again you cannot expect a different outcome. Find the confidence to live the life you've always dreamed of and start by doing something small today to set you in the right direction. I believe in you.
